The "Kuldīga piano" festival opened at Rīga Airport

Ten different pianists from Latvia played four pianos at the same time at the Rīga Airport. Airport passengers had a chance to enjoy piano music from 12.00 to 16.00 in the departures area - at boarding gates "B7" and "C2", and in the terminal near the sign "Rīga".

The annual international piano music festival "Kuldīga piano" will be held in Kuldīga from 7 to 9 September. It will feature a modern sound of music from different genres and eras.

Venues include "Klavins piano" concert hall, "Bangerts" restaurant, the town castle garden, and St Anna's Church. On 7 September, the programme will welcome its opening in the Small Guild Hall with a solo concert by Ukrainian neoclassical pianist Egor Grushin.

It will also be performed two days later at St Anna's Church in Kuldīga. Composer Jānis Lūsēns is expected to open the festival in Kuldīga with piano improvisations in a meditative mood. Saturday's programme will resume with a concert by internationally acclaimed pianist Andrejs Osokins, performing music by Frederik Chopin, Jānis Mediņš, Volfgangs Dārziņš and other composers.

A free concert by Toms Mikāls will take place in the castle garden, while the closing festival concert brings together three groups of musicians for an evening-long performance. The evening will begin with Ritvars Garoza, whose acoustic grand piano sound will be augmented by the sounds of keyboards. He will be followed by Italian pianist Ed Carlsen. The "Kuldīga piano" will conclude with a performance by the duo "DJ Rudd" and Dainis Tenis, the author and creative director of the "Kuldīga piano" concept.
