Restorers and Museum Specialists Convene at Aizpute Museum in Kurzeme

On Monday, 29 April, at 10:00, the Aizpute Museum of Local History, in collaboration with the Latvian Society of Restorers (LRB) and supported by the SCCF, hosts a conference titled “Preservation, Preventive Care, and Restoration of Museum Items.” This conference aims to gather experts in collections and restoration from museums across the Kurzeme region, as well as anyone passionate about the preservation of historical artifacts and objects.

During the conference, experienced restorers will impart their expertise and recommendations on the proper preservation and maintenance of museum collections. The goal is to ensure that museum staff avoid inadvertently causing harm to the physical condition of these invaluable collections due to lack of knowledge or professional experience.

The selection of the Aizpute Museum of Local History as the venue for this conference underscores its successful collaboration with restorers over the past three years. With funding provided by the SCCF, the museum has already restored three items from its collection, including the "Brennabor" baby stroller, the "Portrait of Silvia" by Tatjana Jaunzeme-Goldmane, that she had painted in Siberia, and the Aizpute Town Money and Valuables Chest. This year, two more items, namely, the painting "Tautumeita" by the museum's founder, artist J. Audriņš, and the chest of the shoemakers of the Aizpute United Merchants and Craftsmen Guild, have undergone restoration.

The conference boasts participation from ten LRB members specializing in various restoration fields, including Ronalds Lūsis (restorer, head of the Latvian Society of Restorers), Indra Saulesleja (textile), Dace Pāže (painting), Dace Dubrovska (paper, graphics), Indra Tuņņa (chemist, materials research), Uģis Baļļa (wood), Aigars Pilenieks (wood), Krišjānis Rimšāns (metal), Māris Jēkabsons (wax objects) and Dita Murziņa (painting).

All interested individuals are encouraged to register for the conference by 25 April. Registration can be done by calling +3712 9 623 284 or via email at jolanta.berga@kultura.dkn.lv.
