New Materials Library at the LMMDV

LMMDV, also known as Liepāja Music, Art and Design High School has opened a large library including a materials library as part of the collection, at the grounds of the school, on Alejas iela 18.

The materials library contains about 100 systematised samples of materials using different processing variations based on the materials available at the LMMDV. The school has produced information material containing descriptions, photographs, the technologies, and methods used and the availability of equipment.

A digital version of the materials library is available as a downloadable MB manual file. For any questions about the materials library, please contact the teacher Edijs Abelis (edijs.abelis@lmmdv.edu.lv)

The primary objective of the materials library is to elevate the quality of design and architecture education. It aims to foster the development, prototyping, and testing of product samples in these fields, enhancing awareness of materiality and expanding knowledge of technology utilization across diverse materials.

This innovative project addresses a gap, as cultural education institutions generally lack material libraries providing insights into material use and processing with specific equipment. The initiative was spurred by the introduction of modular educational programs, offering a distinct advantage in exploring various materials and their processing capabilities. The long-term vision involves continuous expansion with new material samples.

LMMDV intends to evolve and make access to the materials library, emphasizing education about material diversity and processing possibilities. The broader goal is to support design learners by providing a valuable resource for hands-on exploration and understanding.
