On Tuesday, 10 October, please join us for the traditional Liepāja jazz music event - Jam Session - in the 2nd floor public area of the Great Amber Concert Hall at 19.00. Our special guests this time will be Kristians Kalva Quartet.

Kristians Kalva is one of Latvia's most striking new generation jazz trumpeters. Earlier this year he completed his studies at the Hague Royal Conservatory under the tutelage of the famous European trumpeters Rik Mol, Martijn de Laat and Frank van der Peol, and was awarded prizes at several international competitions. Just recently he was selected to join the Jong Metropole Orchestra for forthcoming projects. He is a regular guest artist with the major Latvian orchestras - Latvian Radio Big Band, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Riga Chamber Orchestra, Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and has appeared in international projects in Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, the USA, Spain, etc. He has also performed with famous musicians - Randy Brecker, Shayna Steele, Jochen Neuffer, Raimonds Pauls, Laima Vaikule, Ksenija Sidorova, Normunds Rutulis, and the band "Instrumenti", among others.

Nikolas Tsangaris is a drummer from Paphos (Cyprus). His passion for music began at the age of four, when Nikolas started studying under Petros Kizas. Nicolas graduated with honours from the Paphos Music High School. He was enrolled at the Hague Royal Conservatory where he studied jazz with Eric Ineke, Stefan Kruger, and Felix Schlarmann. In November 2021 he had the opportunity to demonstrate his skills as a drummer in the Royal Conservatory's big band, led by the famous Miho Hazama. The following year, Nikolas got the much-desired drummer position in the Jong Metropole Orchestra, where he worked with great conductors such as Tom Cohen and Jochen Neuffer. His outstanding performance in the Fast Future project with Donny McCaslin at Rotterdam’s “LantarenVenster” Film and Jazz Music Theatre won him the prestigious Keep an Eye Outstanding Talent Award. Nicolas currently resides in the Netherlands, working and playing in international bands as bandleader and co-leader.

The concept of the Jam Session music evening is jazz music, improvisation in a free, relaxed atmosphere. The first part of the event will feature a guest artist and backing band. In the second part of the event, students of the Popular and Jazz Music Department of the Liepāja Music, Art and Design High School will join in performing free improvisations. During the Jam Session, musical evening guests have the opportunity to get to know jazz music better, learn more about it and meet well-known artists from Latvia and Europe.
