Liepāja Celebrates Most Active NGOs and Volunteers of 2023

On February 27, at the "Great Amber" Concert hall Liepāja Municipality honoured the city’s most active non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and volunteers for their exceptional contributions in 2023 in a ceremony gilled with gratitude and appreciation. The remarkable contributions of 4 NGOs and 29 Liepāja residents who selflessly volunteered their time and efforts throughout the year were celebrated on Tuesday. Each individual received a certificate of honour in recognition of their invaluable service to the community.

NGOs received well-deserved recognition for their outstanding work in four categories. Liepaja’s 2023 standout organizations include the Association “House of Hope”, which received resident-chosen award as “NGO of the Year 2023”. In the category "Debut of the Year 2023" the award went to the sports development association "Spurts". Fastest Breakthrough of the Year 2023 title was awarded to the association "Shelter for the Family" (Patvērums Ģimenei), whereas Most Successful Project of the Year 2023 was acknowledged to the Liepāja branch of "Latvian Riflemen Association" for its project titled "Noble Spirit of Freedom through the Circles of Time."

In the nomination "Volunteer of the Year 2023" 29 Liepāja residents received Honorary Mentions: Vjačeslavs Kopitovs, Zanda Ančesnko, Biruta Spiciņa, Ainars Lindars, Linda Ulāne, Edgars Lašauri, Taisija Hristoļubova, Inguna Vrubļevska, Roberts Vilcāns, Aija Raudiņa, Sarmīte Strazdiņa, Andris Jaunzemis, Ildze Lagzdiņa, Tīna Vēsmiņa, Guntis Ivanovskis, Zita Valka, Signe Frickausa, Anita Rupeika, Inna Burakova, Anastasija Spirova, Xenia Mihalkina, Agnese Preikša, Velga Fiļipova, Daņils Kalinov, Kristīne Reine-Saponaro, Velta Maļika, Ināra Ozola, Evita Ruicēna and Vitālijs Jakuško.

Liepaja Municipality also acknowledged its esteemed cooperation partners who actively contribute to the success of the NGO sector. The editorial board of the newspaper "Kurzemes Vārds" presented an award to the association "Development Platform You+", while the Society Integration Foundation recognized the association "Tabitas sirds". Additionally, the Kurzeme NGO Centre presented its sympathy prize to the Polish association "Vanda".

This year's ceremony marked a significant increase in participation, reflecting the growing importance and recognition of the valuable contributions made by Liepaja's NGOs and volunteers. This year marked the 19th edition of the recognition program, witnessing a surge in participation with 124 applications received.
