On Saturday, 20 April, starting from 12:00, the seventh annual "Herring Festival" at the Fishing Net House "Piestātne" in Jūrmalciems will take place. Everyone is invited to savour and purchase herring in various delightful interpretations while enjoying a day filled with family-friendly festivities and activities.
This year's festival promises the whole bunch of engaging activities beyond the delectable herring offerings. Dive into the "In One Boat" masterclass, where local Liepāja chefs will tantalize your taste buds with innovative twists on traditional dishes sourced from Liepāja producers. Children, alongside the youth from the Nīca Youth Centre, will craft and fly kites, adding an extra element of fun to the day. Visitors can indulge in delicious fish soup and freshly baked herring courtesy of the association "Valgums," while enjoying musical performances by acclaimed artist Zanda Štrausa, the vocal ensemble of Nīca Secondary School directed by Justīne Siksna, and Mārcis Grīnbarts. Additionally, throughout the day, guests can explore a vibrant homemade and handicraft market.
“As spring unfolds and the weather grows warmer, it's time for our Fishing Net House to kick off the season with this delightful event. Let's come together to enjoy delicious food, have some fun, and celebrate the beauty of spring,” shares the team at the Fishing Net House "Piestātne".
