Co-Funding Competition for the Film Industry in Liepāja Locations is Announced

To nurture the film industry in Liepāja and Latvia, the Liepāja City Municipality is launching a co-funding program for film productions. This initiative aims to cultivate new cultural projects, generate jobs, foster collaboration among local filmmakers, and elevate Liepāja’s profile on the national and international stage.

The Liepāja City Council recently approved a budget of €100,000 (euros) to co-finance film projects in 2024. To qualify, films must have a total budget exceeding €500,000, with the maximum co-financing amount capped at 50% of the project's total cost, but not more than €50,000 per project.

This was decided by the members of the City Council on Thursday, 21 March, when adopting the amendments to the municipal budget for 2024.

Full details, evaluation criteria, and the online application form can be found on the Liepāja Municipality website Liepāja Municipality Film Project Competition: https://www.liepaja.lv/filmu-uznemsanas-projektu-konkurss/

Applications are open from March 21st to September 30th, 2024, or until the allocated funds are exhausted.  The Liepāja City Council’s Commission for Co-Financing Conferences, Seminars, and Inter-sectoral Events will assess submissions.

In recent years, Liepāja and its environs have attracted both Latvian and international productions.  These include "Homo Novus," "1906," "Troubled Minds," "The Jew," "Harbin," "Invisible Fight," and the award-winning “Maria’s Silence” by Dāvis Sīmanis, which took home the Jury Prize at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival.
