Call for Culture Projects

The first 2024 Liepāja Culture Department culture project call is now open. Applications are welcome for two weeks until midnight on 29 January.

Navigate to the Culture Project Competition section at https://www.liepaja.lv/kulturas-projektu-konkurss/ for project documentation and the electronic application form. The anticipated announcement of results is set for February 16.

This year’s competition is set to allocate 50 000 euros in co-funding. According to the Terms and Conditions, the co-funding per project will range from 1,000 euros up to a maximum of 5,000 euros. One applicant may submit several projects, but the maximum grant available will not exceed 8,000 euros. Distinguishing between fee-based and free events, this year’s Terms and Conditions outline that fee-based projects can receive up to 50% co-funding, while free events may qualify for up to 80% co-funding of total project costs.

A designated commission will evaluate projects based on key criteria, emphasizing the promotion of a modern and intellectual cultural environment in Liepāja, innovative and resonant ideas that would stand out on both national and international levels, enriching the diversity of cultural events, development of contemporary and traditional culture, and fostering local resident participation.

The competition is open to legal entities registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia, other than municipal or state institutions, municipal or state limited liability companies, including public derivative entities. Natural persons registered with the State Revenue Service of the Republic of Latvia as carrying out economic activity and not recognised as legal persons within the definition of the Terms and Conditions of the Culture Project Call are also not eligible to participate in the competition. Please be aware, that potential applicants are advised to settle any outstanding taxes owed to the Liepāja Culture Department, the municipality (including real estate tax debt), or the state, as debts exceeding €150 automatically disqualify participation. If the applicant is subject to a debt repayment schedule or agreement, the latter must be attached to the application file.

The period for the implementation of the projects is from 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025. A second call for culture projects is expected to be launched in mid-summer.
