This year's festival features Latvian and international artists. Elementton, who himself is from Karosta, will once again add a new large-scale mural to the Karosta environment. The opening event took place on Friday, 9 June at Liepāja 3rd Primary School with Italian artist Daniela Nasoni, followed by the artist residency at the Karosta Water Supply Tower, which will accomodate four Latvian artists this season – Līga Ķempe, Gunta Lante, Klāvs Loris and Egons Peršēvics. On Friday, artworks will debut at the brand-new venue of the Karosta Festival – the "Awakening Garden" /Atmodas Dārzs/, with three artists painting their murals there – Cake from Peru, Nō from France, and Syed from Pakistan. Rekha Sameer from India is also participating in the Karosta Festival and will create a mural in Redan. Clara Cabrera, a Spanish artist based in Liepāja, displayed her Liepāja works in the Karosta Prison and will be creating a new piece exclusively for the festival. In Redans, Iveta Trence from the social enterprise “0 Design” created the papier-mâché installation “Stray Dog of the Karosta”.
Several other performance artists are also taking part in the Karosta Festival? Among them Kathleen Doherty from Ireland, Agnė Muralytė from Lithuania and Jordina Ros and Pere Estadella from Spain. Students from Liepāja are also taking part in this year’s Karosta Festival, contributing to the campaign “CHAIR RELOADED”. The chairs made by the students will be on display in the Redans.
