The cultural space in Nīca is included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List

At the Council meeting of the Intangible Cultural Heritage it was decided to include four new values to the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) List.

One of the listed values is the cultural space in Nīca, which can be found in the territory of the present-day parishes of Nīca and Otaņķi, between the Baltic Sea, Lake Liepāja and the Bārta River, and whose inhabitants are proud of their colourful national costumes, traditions, local dialect and way of life.

The ceremony at which the certificates of inclusion in the National ICH List will be presented will take place at the end of November.

Information on how to prepare an application, as well as on the Intangible Cultural Heritage Council, is available on the website “nematerialakultura.lv”. The next application window will be announced in January 2023 and will allow half a year for preparation.
