NGO Growth Incubator to be established in Liepāja

For reinforcing the capacity of non-governmental organisations in Liepāja and promoting civic participation of its residents in different city development processes, Liepāja City Council has supported the establishment of an NGO Growth Incubator.

Up to ten local associations are to be involved in the pilot project. During the incubation cycle, organisations will be provided with an in-depth analysis of their activities, mentoring, identification of potential funding sources and practical assistance in preparing project applications.

The NGO Growth Incubator is set to support NGOs in Liepāja, to reinforce Liepāja’s non-governmental sector and to build an effective development platform for professional and sustainable growth.

In addition to financial capacity building, NGOs will also receive guidance on how to strengthen and sustain their activities, including how to position and communicate their message to the wider community, peers, and supporters.

According to “Lursoft” data, 1 174 associations have been registered in Liepāja in 2022, 41% of them or 478 associations are dealing with real estate management, 59% or 696 associations are engaged in other sectors. Only 12% of these 696 associations generate revenues from economic activities, which is an indication of the organisation’s ability to meet the running costs of the association or foundation. 88% of NGOs operate on donation, grant and project basis, which often makes it challenging for associations to be self-sufficient in cases where donations, grants or projects are not available.
