Join us for the Ukraine support event

The Municipality of Liepāja calls everyone to gather on Friday, 24 February, in front of the Liepāja University at 14 Lielā Street to rally in support of the people of Ukraine in the wake of the war that Russia has been waging for the past year.

24 February will mark a year since Russia’s atrocious aggression and war in Ukraine. To support our neighbours, we will be holding an all-day support rally on 24 February in front of the University of Liepāja. It will be an opportunity for all inhabitants of Liepāja to gather and be united in their solidarity with the people of Ukraine, to take part in various aid campaigns, to listen to a concert by the Liepāja musicians and to express their strong commitment to the cause of the Ukrainian people.

By joining the rally for Ukraine, people in Liepāja will be joining millions of others who have shown both practical and emotional solidarity with the Ukrainians over the past year.

Activities at the University of Liepāja will already start during the day. You will hear and listen to the soundful Ukrainian music, have a look at the digital exhibition “Destroyed Liepāja. Destroyed Ukraine”, take part in a charity campaign in a partnership with the NGO “Tabitas sirds”, as well as other activities.

We call on people to donate paraffin or candles for making trench candles, socks, gloves and first aid medical supplies (e.g. bandages), which you can donate during the event. Please be reminded that socks, gloves, and medical supplies must be unused. There will also be an opportunity to donate money, all of which will be used to support Ukraine.

The evening concert will begin at 19.00, featuring performances by popular Liepāja musicians, and moderated by songwriter Maija Kalniņa.

Not to get used to the war happening in our neighbouring country; we must keep standing out and demonstrate that we are committed to Ukraine’s victory and independence! See you on 24 February at the University of Liepāja!
