On Saturday, 4 February, at 13:00, the Liepāja 17th – 19th Century Interior Museum “Madame Hoyer’s Guest House” at 24 Kungu Street welcomes you to the “Hunting Day at Hoyer’s”, giving the opportunity to watch hunting dog, horse and pony demonstrations, explore the exhibition of hunting trophies on the second floor of the Liepāja Interior Museum, and taste the delicacies.

The day will begin with a parade of hunting dogs in the courtyard of the Liepāja Interior Museum at 13:00. Meanwhile, from 14:00 to 16:00 there will be an opportunity to hop on a horse and take a pony ride around the Hoyer’s yard.

The hunting dog parade will be hosted by Kate Šterna, who is a hunter and hunting dog advocate, in cooperation with the dog owners. The hunting dog parade and demonstrations will feature dogs from popular Latvian breeds as well as some lesser-known ones. You will have a chance to meet each dog individually, learn about the breeds’ characteristics, upbringing, and handling, as well as talk to the owners.

From 14:00, visitors are then welcome to stay in the “Hoyer's Tavern”, watching demonstrations by the hunters’ loyal assistants – the hunting dogs, as well as talking to the dog owners.

Whereas at 14:30, on the second floor of the Liepāja 17th – 19th Century Interior Museum, “Hunting Day at Hoyer’s” will feature an exhibition of hunting trophies, such as fallow deer antlers and various hunting accessories from the Liepāja Museum and hunters’ private collections.

The exhibition will be on display at the Liepāja Interior Museum until 28 February during museum opening hours – Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.

Throughout the event, you will be offered the opportunity to enjoy delicious yummies in the courtyard of the Liepāja Interior Museum and at the “Hoyer’s Tavern”. The menu will feature hunters’ cuisine with meat, venison soup, hot drinks, and other tasty hunting bites.

The Hunting Day events in the museum courtyard will be free of charge and open to everyone, while entrance tickets for the exhibition of hunting trophies and the interior museum can be purchased at the museum ticket office during museum opening hours: Wednesday – Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. The event is organised in collaboration with Kate Šterna, hunter, author of articles in the magazine “Medības”, co-founder and board member of the Latvian Ladies’ Hunters Club “LADY HUNT”, which was founded with the aim to bring together Latvian women hunters, develop hunting ethics and popularise hunting traditions.
