Choir “Laiks” wins the highest awards in Poland

Liepāja Folk Art and Culture Centre mixed choir “Laiks”, which, under the direction of conductor Ilze Balode and choirmaster Krišs Pozemkovskis, sang at the XV International Choir Festival “Varsovia Cantat” over the weekend, won the Grand Prix and Gold Diploma

Choirs from Poland, Estonia and Latvia took part in the festival.

Mixed choir “Laiks” sang “Exultate, Jubilate” by Romuald Twardowski, Latvian folk song “Pūra dziesma” in the style of Sabīne Kezbere, “Ave Maria” by Kevin Memley and “Mēnestiņš meloja” by Jāzeps Vītols.

Alongside the competition, the choir also had the opportunity to perform at the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw, where they sang part of the competition repertoire as well as melodies by Uldis Stabulnieks and Raimonds Tiguls.
