Call for applications for the 2nd Youth Forum

We are announcing a call for applications for the second and third rounds of the 2nd Liepāja Youth Forum, so that elementary and secondary school students can continue working on ideas from the first round. Applications are open to elementary 6-9 grade school students in a team of five with a computer or technology teacher and to individual secondary school students.  To apply, please fill in the form Liepāja youth Forum “My Future City”  (in Latvian) until 20 February 2023.

Participants of the 1st round of the 2nd Liepāja Youth Forum – more than 300 elementary and pre-school students, developed ideas for the new life of the former industrial buildings of the “Liepājas Metalurgs” Steel Plant. Their creative think tank explored what could happen to the famous three chimneys of the Metalurgs, and what could be housed in the currently empty facilities and workshops. Now it is time for the elementary and secondary school children to develop their ideas further.

We invite elementary school teams and individual secondary school-age students to apply for the hackathons until 20 February 2023. During the hackathons, teams will use their creative work to develop projects on the revival of industrial buildings as augmented reality objects, as environmental design objects, as cross functional objects or as objects integrated into the natural environment.

The Elementary School Hackathon will take place in person from 28.02 - 1.03. Prior to the hackathon each team will select one object idea from the Ideas Bank https://lnf.lv/mana-nakotnes-pilseta-ideju-banka/, elaborate and modify it, develop a model concept. The team may also use their own idea.

Liepāja Youth Forum is a participatory project where young people of different ages team up to create and develop ideas for the city’s development. The topic of the 2022/23 Forum is the new life of the former “Liepājas Metalurgs” Steel Plant industrial buildings – what else this industrial giant might become?
